Fifty years ago, the last high school classes graduated from Barnard and Vesper high schools in Lincoln County. This Memorial Day weekend, those graduates will be recognized as guests of honor at special celebrations in each community. Through consolidation efforts, the smaller school districts no longer existed when the school year ended in May 1966. The following school year, Barnard became part of the Lincoln School District, while Vesper schools were absorbed into the newly formed Sylvan Unified School District.
Janis Nitsch and Keith Oetting united in marriage June 1, 1966 at the Bethany Baptist Church Parsonage. Their children are Darin Oetting of Sylvan Grove and Dedra (Milton) Wehrman of Hunter. They have three grandchildren, Greta, Aleah, and Tressa.
