Dorothy Lynn Reiter Wicks

Dorothy Lynn Reiter Wicks

Nov. 25, 1941 - Sept. 4, 2023

Dorothy Lynn Reiter Wicks was born November 7, 1931 on a farm South of Beloit, KS to Loren and Lora Reiter. She left her earthly home on Monday, September 4, 2023 at Lincoln Park Manor, Lincoln, KS.

Dot attended grade school in Ionia, KS, and then in Asherville, when the family moved to a farm East of Beloit. She went to Beloit High School, graduating with the class of 1949.

Dorothy was united in marriage to Lynn Wicks on May 19, 1950. Three children were born to this union: Jeffrey Scott, Robin Kay, and Katherine Reiter.

She worked as a secretary at a moving company in California when Lynn was stationed in the US Marine Corps. After returning to Beloit, Dot worked for the ACT Program, as well as the Beloit Typewriter Exchange. She researched and prepared a land-owners map of Mitchell County in the 1960s. The family relocated to Lincoln, KS in 1970. Dot worked as a reporter for the Lincoln Sentinel Republican, specializing in human interest stories. She was a very creative person, making beautiful quilts of colorful flannel and denim, utilizing interesting pockets and zippers to enhance the blankets. The family lovingly calls them “Snuggle-up-Unders.” Dot was a fantastic cook! She won prizes in Kansas breadbaking and beef cook-off contests. Some of her family’s favorites were sugar cookies, Swedish rolls, peach pie and Christmas candies.

Dot and two of her sisters, Bev and Kay, traveled to New York City, Dallas, and Chicago to watch their favorite opera star, Luciano Pavarotti in concert. Those were experiences they cherished.

She loved going to auctions and antique stores. Dot had a fine collection of cranberry hobnail Fenton pieces, Blue Willow place settings, cast iron cookware and crock jugs and bowls of many shapes and sizes. Her home was filled with beauty and interest.

Dot was a two-time breast cancer survivor, facing surgery, chemotherapy and radiation treatments with quiet dignity.

Following a fall in January of 2021, Dot lost much of her independence. Because of the devoted care of her son, Jeff, she was able to remain in her own home until ill health necessitated a move to Lincoln Park Manor in May of 2023, where she remained until her death.

Dot is survived by her children: Jeff of Lincoln, Robin (Gail) Pearson of Beloit, and Katie (Mitch) Obermueller of Lincoln, sisters Beverly Lorenz and Lora Kay Reiter of Beloit, sister-in-law Maxine Wicks of Bennet, NE, ten grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lynn, her parents, Loren and Lora Reiter, her brother Max and wife Nadine, sister Peg and husband Norman, nephews David Donker, Andrew Lorenz and Max Joseph Lorenz.

Memorial services will be at 1:30 PM Friday, September 15 at the Roberts Family Funeral Home followed by burial in Simpson Cemetery, overlooking the family farm. Cremation has taken place & there will be no visitation. Memorials may be given to the Lincoln Carnegie Library or Lincoln Park Manor. Roberts Family Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
