Janet Marjorie Powell

Janet Marjorie Powell, 82, passed away Sunday, March 12, 2023 at her home in rural Lincoln County, KS. She was born March 21, 1940 in Glen Elder, KS to Gail and Edna Pauline (Wright) Hixenbaugh. Janet married Merritte James “Jim” Powell in Beloit, KS on June 26, 1959.

She worked as a dispatcher for the Lincoln County Sheriff ’s Office and later as a LPN at the Lincoln County Hospital long-term care unit. She was a member of the Church of Christ, Eastern Star, and a dog lover. Janet is survived by her sons, Jamie Powell (Gladys) of Beloit, Joel Powell (Anita) of Colby, and Jay Powell of Beverly; grandchildren, Amy Swanson (Virgel), Erin Garst, Maeghan Linder (Dustin), Travis Powell (Athena), Trenton Powell (Ashley), Tara Powell, and Dylan Larsen; great grandchildren, Taylor, Merritt, and Isabella Swanson, Clayton and Trinity Garst, Arya and Ryker Linder, Madison and Molly Powell, and Callista Powell; and siblings, Norma Gasaway, Virginia Fobes (Richard), Warren Hixenbaugh (Elizabeth), and Larry Hixenbaugh (Carol). She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jim Powell, and brother-in-law Jerry Gasaway.
