Bartels celebrating Golden Anniversary

Vernon and Ruth Ellen Bartels will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday, August 31, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Bob Billings (15th Street) at Iowa Street (US 59), in Lawrence, Kansas. Ruth Ellen is the daughter of former Lincoln county residents Wayne and Ruth Hunter, deceased. Vernon is the son of Raymond and Velma Bartels, deceased, of rural Lincoln. They were married August 31, 1969, at the First Presbyterian Church in Great Bend, Kansas by the Rev. David Irwin.

Vernon and Ruth Ellen graduated from Lincoln Rural High School in 1966, and from the University of Kansas. Vernon was a mechanical engineer for Hallmark Cards in Lawrence for 31 years, and Ruth Ellen first taught high school Biology for a couple of years before becoming a full-time mother; she then worked for many years in medical office administration.

The reception will be hosted by the couple’s children: Jeff with wife Tanya of Overland Park, along with their children Derek, Ryan and Rachel; and Doug with wife Jenny of Chandler, Arizona and Doug’s son Colin of Sidney, Nebraska.
