Cooper Family presented lifetime family membership

one millionth visitor at Sternberg Museum

When Ashley Cooper of Lincoln took her family to the Sternburg Museum in Hays Friday, February 7, for a home-school group tour, she never expected to be greeted by confetti. Cooper and her five children were the one millionth visitors at the Sternberg Museum of Natural History in Hays. Sternberg employees presented Ashley with a lifetime family membership to their museum in honor of the occasion, along with a basket of goodies from the museum’s gift shop.

The Sternberg is part of Fort Hays State University The university renamed its museum the Sternberg Memorial Museum following the death of George F. Sternberg, who developed it, in 1969. The current museum was formed in 1991 when the university’s museum merged with Museum of the High Plains. The Sternberg officially opened March 13, 1999.
