Interim Superintendent takes the helm as USD 298 BOE begins new fiscal year

Board hires new LES Principal in a span of two weeks

The USD 298 Lincoln Board of Education met four times in the last few weeks for special meetings, not including the regular July monthly meeting.

The flurry of activity began June 14 when the board accepted the immediate resignation of Stephen Koch as LES principal. Koch took another position in the Manhattan school district. Following a planned special meeting June 25 for the yearend closeout, and additional special meetings June 27 and 28, the board hired Denise Schmidt as the new LES Principal. Schmidt has been teaching at Central Plains school district.

June 28 was Superintendent Kathy Robertson’s last day in Lincoln, as she took a position in the El Dorado school district. In April, the board hired Dr. Betty Summers as Interim Superintendent for the 2019-2020 school year. Summers is a retired Superintendent who recently served as Interim Superintendent for the Waconda school district. Summers has been attending USD 298 board meetings for the last few months to get up to speed on all the ongoing projects in Lincoln, and transitioned into her new role at the July 1 regular monthly meeting.
