Sylvan boy battles leukemia
Rylan Gier and his family have just come out on the sunny side of a five-month nightmare.
Rylan lives with his family – his parents Ryan and Sara Gier, brother Kaden and sister Allie - in Sylvan Grove where the family has strong multi-generational roots. Rylan attends Sylvan-Lucas Unified Junior/Senior High School. His interests mirror those of many 13-year-old boys from a small community – school, friends and family.
In March 11th of this year, Rylan became ill. He was diagnosed with influenza B with symptoms that included vomiting, a low grade fever and leg pains. This was the beginning of Rylan’s nightmare. Eventually spots covered his entire body and he became incoherent and unable to walk. This was the beginning of the nightmare for the whole family.
