Upcoming 29th annual Lincoln Reenactment planned

The Lincoln County Historical Society Reenactment Committee invites history lovers and Lincoln County residents alike to take a step back and experience what a day was like in 1859 at the 29th annual Lincoln Reenactment weekend, planned for Feb. 15-16. “It’s just [an event] that has become ... a time for people interested in the Civil War history to gather,” said Marilyn Helmer, Lincoln County Historical Society Reenactment Committee member and owner of Village Lines.

The event this year focuses on Abraham Lincoln’s visits to Kansas in 1859, which was the year before he was elected as the 16th president of the United States. It will also touch on the Underground Railroad, abolitionist John Brown’s execution and the Wyandotte Constitution, Helmer said.
