In just a few days, Lincoln, along with thousands of other towns, will resemble a war zone with a few exceptions. The sound of the gun powder will be followed immediately with colorful lights, no one will be wearing combat gear from any branch of service and the yelling will be more like shrieks of laughter.
July is that time of year we slow down just a tad, go to planting instead of reaping, getting more used to the kids being around more and that sort of thing. However, if you are a 4-H kid or the parent of a 4-H kid, July means putting the pedal to the metal because you only have a few more weeks to put a shine on your fair entries!
Three-dozen high school aged students from throughout the state converged on Lincoln recently, putting things in order as they went.
Shelby Ford and Alyssa Behrens, both recent graduates of LJSHS, took the trip of a lifetime with long-time Girl Scout leader Kathie Crispin and Nancy Knapp.
Local veteran Jim Ratcliff of Lincoln was recently named State Commander of the Department of Kansas VFW after an election held June 12. Ratcliff has been a member of the VFW since 1998. In January of 2001 he became a lifetime member and is currently a member of VFW Post #6240 in Russell, KS.
