Local veteran Jim Ratcliff of Lincoln was recently named State Commander of the Department of Kansas VFW after an election held June 12. Ratcliff has been a member of the VFW since 1998. In January of 2001 he became a lifetime member and is currently a member of VFW Post #6240 in Russell, KS.
Three-dozen high school aged students from throughout the state converged on Lincoln recently, putting things in order as they went.
When Jessica and Travis Thornhill opened the Beverly Bar & Grill in Beverly in January 2022, they knew what they were getting into. Jessica had several years’ experience in the restaurant business, and the couple owns a food truck called the “Snack Hole.” Travis also owns and operates Iron Street Tattoo & Body Piering at 111 E. Iron Ave. in Salina. In short, both members of this team know food service, the ins and outs of owning a small business and how to work hard.
Baili Kerth has joined the Post Rock District team as 4-H Program Coordinator, supporting programming throughout the district with Lincoln as her home office.
Lincoln High School has enjoyed success in a variety of extracurricular activities over the years. Boys’ sand greens golf, powerlifting and girls’ basketball have all yielded team state championships, while forensics teams and music students have earned multiple top marks at state competition.

The 13th annual Post Rock Academy dance recital was held May 21 at Lincoln Elementary. The title of the event was “You Walk me Through Fires.” Lessons for all levels and ages are provided by Anne Dohl, Sylvan Grove, proprietor of the academy, along with some of her “graduates” and are held at The Cube. “Bugs and Butterflies,” a dance and tumbling camp will be held at The Cube for ages 3 through high school. Lincoln County Economic Development Executive Director, Kelly Gourley, was recently the recipient of the 2022 Kansas Preservation Alliance Advocacy Award.
Lincoln, Kansas - The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) has awarded Lincoln County nearly $1 million in grant funds through their 2022 Cost Share Program. The funds will help to repave a section of 60th Road south of Sylvan Grove from Hwy 181 to the county line. Construction is scheduled for the summer of 2023.
