For many the year 2020 will be remembered as the year of Covid-19. However, for Rylan Gier and his family, Ryan, Sara, Kaden and Allie, this past year has brought even more unforeseen challenges.
Lincoln has some new faces downtown. Dr. Jason Barth of Salina Dental Arts, has purchased Dr. Steve Geist’s dental practice and is opening Lincoln Dental Arts.
The School Board discussed the early retirement plan that was presented to them during the previous meeting. No decision has been made yet regarding this matter. The board said they do not have enough information at this time to make any decisions.
The Lincoln City Council met for a regular scheduled meeting March 8.
The Sylvan-Lucas Unified High School Choral Department will present “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers” at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 26 and Saturday, March 27, in the High School Commons area. The admission price is $5.00. Masks are still required, at this time, for all indoor school events. A matinee will be presented to the Lucas-Sylvan Elementary school students and teachers on Wednesday, March 24, at 12:30 p.m. in the High School Commons Area.
The Lincoln Carnegie Library is in the process of a makeover. Work began Monday by Pishny Restoration Services out of Lenexa, to replace all the windows in the building.
Starting March 15, Lincoln Park Manor will be phasing visitation back into the facility.
The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) 41st Annual Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championships were held March 3-6 in Yankton, S.D. The Friends University Falcons earned a National Trophy with a fourth-place finish at the NAIA Meet. Heavily contributing to the Falcons’ finish was National Championship runs by Senior Aileen Gurrola from Garden City, Kan. in the 600 meter run and Sophomore Aubry Donley from Lincoln, Kan. in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:13.69. Amidst a challenging 2020 businesses in Lincoln are looking forward and making changes. 1. Meyer Tire & Lube received an updated covering over their gas pumps and are also planning to repair their drive when the weather warms up and allows for new concrete. 2. Also at Meyer Tire & Lube a new digital gas price sign was installed. 3. If you have visited Seirer’s Clothing in the past few weeks you’d notice lots of changes going on. Updating lighting fixtures, flooring and in August of 2020 Carly’s nearly ancient air conditioner decide to stop working. The old A/C has been taken out and a new dressing room has been built in its place. This spring she will be getting a whole new HVAC system. 4. Village Lines has put up new signage along with a new awning. 5. Mity Mart took down the leaning tower sign that once stood on the west side of the parking lot. (Courtesy photos)
