Mildred Riekenberg, 100, formerly of Sylvan Grove, passed away July 2, 2019. She was born October 30, 1918, to Abraham and Helena Bestvater, near Goessel, Kan., the sixth of ten children.
Mildred married James Riekenberg December 10, 1944, while James was in the Army. They moved to the Riekenberg family farm north of Sylvan Grove in early 1946, where they worked together for over 49 years until James passed away in 1995.
Mildred is survived by her sons John (Galva, Kan.) and Darrell (and wife Ruth, Bennington, Kan.); grandchildren Jonathan Riekenberg (and wife Anne, Lenexa, Kan.), Aaron Riekenberg (and wife Tracy, St. Paul, MN), Grace Ure (and husband Erik, Manhattan, Kan.), and Andrew Riekenberg (Manhattan); and great-grandchildren Will, Hannah, and Ben.
She was preceded in death by her husband James H., son James Keith, daughter-in-law Rosann, granddaughter Lisa, six sisters, and three brothers. Services were held on Tuesday, July 9, 2019. The graveside service and burial took place at 10:30 a.m. at Rosette Cemetery, rural Sylvan Grove. Following the graveside service, a memorial service was held at 11:30 at the Lucas United Methodist Church, 322 N. Main St., Lucas, KS 67648.
