LETTER TO THE EDITOR

I am writing to all the residents of Lincoln and Lincoln County to express my concern for Lincoln Park Manor (LPM) and whether it will remain open to serve the vulnerable elderly who currently reside there.

Last week LPM’s Assisted Living (AL) residents were notified that the AL wing would be closing and that they would have until June 1 to find other housing. The reason given was low census and not enough staff to care of those five residents, all of whom are your former neighbors, friends or relatives. Due to this notification, countless tears are being shed by the residents and the anguish can be seen on their faces.

In my opinion, the closing of Assisted Living could have been avoided if the County Commissioners had been proactive. Instead, over the past two years they have spent thousands of your tax dollars on expensive attorneys, accountants and “experts,” searching for the answer of what to do with LPM. Those thousands of tax dollars could have been used to repair the holes in the roof, pay salaries to avoid layoffs, replace windows, old air conditioning units, etc. They have put our most vulnerable citizens at risk both physically and mentally.
