My sailor son has been deployed. Again. Since it bothers me, it’s clear that after 41 years of him being my son and 22 years of him being active military, I will never get used to this.
This time he told me where he was going. Or, he told me what he wanted me to know, which may or may not be the total truth. I was a Navy brat, but I was so young, I really don’t remember my dad being away for deployments. My parents divorced when I was five, so as far as I knew, he was always away. Sometimes when he came back, he brought cool gifts like kimonos and pearls with him. Other times he just brought himself. That’s all I knew as a little kid.
