Mustangs qualify for sub-state
Last week the Sylvan-Lucas boys basketball team was able to go 2-1 in 1A Regionals and qualify for sub-state. After their win over Natoma on Monday, the Mustangs defeated the Wilson Dragons 50-43 in semis. During the Regional finals the Mustangs accepted a loss to the undefeated Central Plains Oilers 17-59. The Oilers boys basketball team is ranked number one in Kansas for 1A.
On Friday, in the game against Wilson, the play was intense from the start and it wasn’t until the third quarter that the Mustangs were able to take control. In the first quarter, the Mustangs gained a small lead 14-12, but the Dragons pushed back in the second quarter and stole the lead. The ‘Stangs were down 22-24 going into halftime. The ‘Stangs came out of halftime and dominated the Dragons by outscoring them 17-4 and taking the lead 38-28. The Dragons made a good attempt at making a comeback by scoring 15 points, but couldn’t put a stop to the Mustangs offense. The Stangs were able to continue in regionals by the 50-43 win over the Dragons.
