Strong season opener for Leopards baseball team in Republic County
Last Tuesday the Lincoln/Sylvan-Lucas baseball team opened their season with two big wins over the Republic County Buffaloes in Belleville. The baseball team continued their week on Thursday with a tough double header at Southeast of Saline. Unfortunately, LSL was handed their first two losses of the season by the Trojans.
During the first game on Tuesday, the Leopards allowed the Buffaloes one run in the first inning and three runs in the second, and it wasn’t until the third inning that LSL made it on the scoreboard. The Leopards took the game over in the fifth inning rallying 9 runs together, then batting in five more runs during the sixth inning, finishing the game by run-rule 15-4. During the second game against the Buffaloes, the Leopards were quick to make it on the scoreboard, tallying six runs in the second inning. LSL added another run in the third inning, three in the fifth, and two more runs in the seventh, finishing the game with another win over the Buffaloes 12-2.
On Thursday the Leopards traveled to Southeast of Saline for a non-conference game against the Trojans. It was a close first ball game until the fourth inning when the Trojans scored seven runs leaving the Leopards trailing 9-0 at the bottom of the fourth. While the Leopards defense was able to hold the Trojans for the rest of the game, they were unable to make an appearance on the scoreboard, resulting in their first loss 9-0. In the second game against the Trojans, the Leopards were able to make it on the scoreboard with one run. Shortly after, the Leopards were run-ruled in the third inning 1-16, moving to 2-2 on the season. The LSL baseball team will continue their season with a doubleheader in Beloit on Thursday, April 4.
