Arnold G. Good

Arnold G. Good passed away peacefully in Lawrence, Kan. on August 13, 2021 surrounded by family.

Arnold was born November 11, 1939 at home in Barnard, Kan. to Emerson and Muriel Wallace Good. He grew up surrounded by his family on the farm, and learned the value of hard work and also demonstrated an ornery sense of fun. He attended Barnard schools, and then attended Kansas State University. At K-State he met Linda “Wendy” Roy, and they graduated in the morning, married in the afternoon and he reported to the US Military the next morning.

He completed the basic airborne course at Ft. Benning, Ga. He was in the top three in his classes, and had his choice of being a paratrooper, Ranger training or his original assignment of training troops at Ft. Leonard Wood. He chose the training assignment, to be closer to home. His dog Schatzi followed him everywhere on base and had his own uniform. After active duty, he was in the reserves in Salina and was Company Commander for most of his service in the reserves. He had a passionate interest in military history the rest of his life. Over the years he restored a Halftrack, Duck Troop Carrier, and a Deuce and a Half Truck, combining his love of mechanics and history.

He and Wendy had two children, Steve and Janet, who survive him, along with a beloved grandchild. He loved a family road trip, traveling to National Parks and Civil War battlegrounds and encouraging a love of the outdoors in their children. He loved a day on the boat at Wilson Lake, and they enjoyed bringing extra kids and friends along more often than not.

He was very active in local leadership in Lincoln County, and was mayor of Barnard for many years. He helped start and was the first president of the Lincoln County Development Association. He was the manager of the Barnard State Bank, and also continued to farm with his family. He had a strong commitment to his family and community.

In later years, he married Charli Rowcliffe and though they divorced, he remained close to and part of her family for the rest of his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Ardith and Nancy, brother David and stepson Mark Peters.

A gathering of friends and family and celebration of life will be Saturday, October 2, 2021 at the Barnard Community Building, 302 Main Street, Barnard Kan. from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. Memorial donations may be given to the Lincoln County Historical Society, 216 W Lincoln Ave, Lincoln, KS, 67455. “
