Constitution and Celebrate Freedom week

Constitution and Celebrate Freedom week

This week, September 14-18, is Constitution and Celebrate Freedom week at USD 298 and throughout the state. If you’ve never heard of it, it’s because it is relatively new and celebrated by only five states in the nation.

Celebrate Freedom Week is an official holiday, designed to emphasize the teaching of the country’s origins with an emphasis on the founding documents. The curriculum is taught to children of all ages. In Kansas this includes kindergarten through eighth grade.

Of the five states that celebrate this holiday week, which include Arkansas, Florida, Oklahoma, Texas, and of course, Kansas, there is not an official week among the states for the celebration. Kansas and Texas celebrate the week containing September 17, the date the U.S. Constitution was signed. Oklahoma celebrates the week containing November 11, Veteran’s Day. Florida and Arkansas celebrate the last full week of September.
