Motorcoach tour to remember Indian raid history
On the courthouse lawn stands a tall four-sided memorial to the early Lincoln County settlers lost to Indian raids 150 years ago. The tragic stories of lives, lost forever as settlers headed out on the western edge of the frontier with hopes of beginning a new life, will be told again for a special remembrance event May 31 and June 1, 2019.
The 150th Anniversary of the Lincoln County Indian Raids is a series of programs including a historical overview presentation by ‘Dog Soldier Justice: The Ordeal of Susanna Alderdice in the Kansas Indian War’ author Jeff Broome, and an air-conditioned motorcoach and self-driving tour to Denmark, Vesper, the Lincoln County Courthouse monument and several other significant historical stops along the way, with several presentations planned.
