USD 298 school year off to a positive start, enrollment down for 2019-20
The USD 298 Board of Education learned at the regular meeting September 4 that enrollment numbers for the district are down for the 2019-2020 school year. Interim Superintendent Dr. Betty Summers explained to the board how the full-time equivalent (FTE) enrollment is figured for budget purposes. Preschool students count half, so 19 students turns into 9.5, and partial FTE’s also are indicative of home-schooled students taking elective courses offered through the public school. She said when reviewing previous years FTE on the Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE) website, there were 329 FTE for 2016-17, 324 FTE for 2017-18, 337.1 last year, and 317.5 this year.
