NCK Raptors Mountain Bike Team to hold First Practice
North Central KS - The NCK Raptors Mountain Bike Team is preparing for their third season with the first practice planned for Sunday, January 15, 2-4 p.m. at Palen Family Farms, east of Tipton, KS. The NCK Raptors team is open to boys and girls 6th to 12th grade from area schools and homeschool students in North Central Kansas, and is in the third year of the Interscholastic Kansas Cycling League.

Proposed FCC Map Could Prolong Local Problems with Internet Access
If you live in eastern Lincoln County, you may not have access to the internet. Or, your internet speed may be so grindingly slow that you can’t watch the evening news or your favorite television program.
Lincoln Art Center Exhibit
Lincoln . “Meditations on Nature: Color and Form” The Lincoln Art Center will feature an exhibit of selected works from Amanda Wagner, Bennington, Jennifer Weigel, McPherson, and Kristen Luber, of Topeka Jauary 13 - February 25th. The opening reception will be held at the Lincoln Art Center on Friday January 13 from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
4H Council
The Lincoln County 4-H Council met on December 28, 2022. The council discussed the Post Rock District Judging Extravaganza, 4-H Days in Beloit, the Lincoln County Fair schedule, and dates for beef weigh-in. The date for the 4-H Judging Extravaganza has yet to be determined; however, any 4-H members who wish to be on the planning committee may contact the extension office. There may also be an opportunity for some older members to help create judging items for the younger kids. 4-H Days in Beloit will be February 11th and 4-H volunteers to monitor rooms are needed. The Lincoln County Fair will be held July 19- 22 with the Fashion Review on 13th of July, and the foods and photography judging on July 17th. It was discussed that there could be opportunities for other organizations to do community service to help with fair set-up, clean-up and building watches during the fair. The location for the fashion review, food, and photography judging has yet to be determined. Beef weigh-in will be on February 18th beginning at 10 am at the fairgrounds. The next 4-H council meeting is scheduled for February 16th at 6:30 pm.
VFW Post 7928 announces scholarship winners
The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) is dedicated to promoting patriotism, as well as investing in our future generations. One way of doing this is through offering scholarships for well-deserving students. High School students could win a $35,000 college scholarship, while a middle school student may compete for a $5,000 scholarship.
LJSHS students recognized for poetry
In November 2022, three Lincoln Junior/Senior High School students entered Last November, the Appelley Publishing National Student Poetry Contest. Students submitted a poem of no less than 2 lines and no more than 20 lines of original work.
Sylvan Unified recognizes achievements in speech
In the spring of 2022, the USD 299 forensics speech team took second place at the state competition, and two of its members brought home state championships. These students were recognized for their achievements at a recent basketball game.
