There have been several news stories across the state regarding serious traffic accidents involving young drivers. Many of these accidents involved serious injuries and even fatalities. Lincoln County has also seen accidents of this kind involving local youth.
The 2nd Annual Lighted Christmas Parade was held in downtown Lincoln last weekend. The streets were filled with families watching the many Christmas themed participants. Local businesses, individuals and groups such as Post Rock Mountain Bike Club traveled down main street handing out candy and waving to the crowd. Earlier in the day Santa and his assistant Sparkles were at Deb’s Place greeting all the children with a special box for Letters for Santa. The VFW Post 7928 provided treat sacks for all the children who came to visit Santa. The local FFA was selling hot chocolate and hot apple cider, it was a wonderful evening in downtown Lincoln. Barnard native Nathan Good has been named by the Kansas Football Coaches Association as Assistant Coach of the Year for Class 4A. Good has been coaching football for 16 years, with the last five years as defensive coordinator at Wamego High School with Weston Moody as head coach.
Owning a store in smalltown Kansas comes with a host of uncertainties. A lower population size can provide small business owners a disadvantage. However, the internet can expose a business, even one in a town with a population of just over 1,000 people, to customers worldwide.
Senior Centers are vital to elder citizens of a community. It provides them with a place to gather, socialize and experience life together. In Sylvan Grove, the Senior Center often served as the hub of activity for the entire community.
Pearl Harbor Day, or National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, is observed annually in the U.S. on December 7, to remember and honor the 2,403 Americans who were killed in the Japanese surprise attack on Pearl Harbor in Hawaii on December 7, 1941, an event leading to President Franklin Roosevelt declaring war on Japan the next day and thus entering World War II. According to history.com, Roosevelt expected an attack on U.S. targets in Thailand or the Dutch East Indies. When the news about Pearl Harbor reached Washington, President Roosevelt was surprised by the attack which had been more deadly than the administration had expected, even though Pearl Harbor was an obvious target.

Each year on December 8th, brownie lovers across the nation enjoy one of their favorite baked goods on National Brownie Day. In the United States, the chocolate brownie is a favorite, with the blonde brownie running a close second. A blonde brownie is made with brown sugar and no chocolate and is often called a blondie.
The Lincoln Quilt Guild met Saturday, Nov. 19. The Divines of Salina presented an interesting program of early quilters in the Emporia area. History through pictures, books, and discussions were enjoyed by those attending.
