Rathbun celebrates 90th
In honor of 90 years of life, the family of Lincoln County native Dale Rathbun are hosting an open house. The event is open to the public November 5 at the Finch Theatre, in a come-and-go format from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Dale was born October 20, 1932, at Ash Grove and has been a life-long resident of the county. He was employed by Quartzite before spending 30 years of his career at Farmway Coop as the service manager/propane delivery driver.
Business blossoms into passion
What started as a simple business opportunity blossomed into a job Brandy Krueger never imagined she would love as much as she does. Krueger, owner of Mrs. B’s Floral and Nursery, 811 N. Sixth St., said about 15 years ago she bought a seasonal nursery. Her children were young and it would be job she could have that would not interfere with the family.

Legislators want more power to overturn agency rules
The Kansas Legislature can overturn rules and regulations of state agencies by a two-thirds majority vote and a signature from the governor. This year legislators approved House Concurrent Resolution 5014 asking Kansas voters to make it easier for them to overturn policies made by those agencies.

L Tech now a reality
Lincoln Technical Center (L Tech) is open and operating. The final occupancy inspection has been completed and students are utilizing the building. The L Tech currently offers course work in Automotive Tech and Welding. This facility is a satellite campus for Salina Technical College and is open to any students, in any district in the surrounding area, that meet the admissions requirements of Salina Technical College.
Lincoln Co. selected for Rural by Choice Champions Program
Governor Laura Kelly recently announced the 12 grant recipients of the Rural by Choice Champions Program (Rural Champions) launched earlier this year in collaboration with the Patterson Family Foundation. The selected Rural Champions will be a part of a statewide network of grassroots individuals tackling critical projects in their respective communities.
Amendment would make two changes to sheriff’s position
Voters will be asked on Nov. 8 if they want the position of sheriff engrained in the state constitution as an elected position.
Mai named USD 418 Teacher of the Year
Lincoln native Megan Mai has been selected as Teacher of the Year in the McPherson US 418 school district. A 1997 graduate of Lincoln High School, Mai graduated from Fort Hays State University in 2001 with a degree in Elementary Education and an Endorsement in Early Childhood Education.
