Sadie sells sweets for music in the park

For several years – maybe several decades – a 5k run has been a big part of Lincoln’s annual Post Rock Festival held Labor Day weekend each year. The run began by the efforts of Charlene Jones and Becky Cheney, both avid runners. Through the years this run has attracted runners from throughout central Kansas.
Macy Cline of Minneapolis, KS was named the 2022-2023 National American Miss Kansas Jr. Teen at a pageant competition held July 9-10 at Chateaux on the River at Branson, MO. Macy competed in several optional competitions including Actress, Fun Fitness, Casual Wear, Runway, Dream Model, and Photogenic, earning awards in each competition. Macy was also named the State Cover Girl, earning an opportunity to compete in the National Pageant at Disney World, and to return to next year’s pageant to crown her successor. The Cover Girl contest is a contest where contestants could sell Spotlight Pages for the state’s pageant yearbook.

Manager Deb Zachgo and employee Chelsea Meyer unwittingly opened a drive through window at Mity Mart Wednesday, July 13. While most driveins serve from a window, at Mity Mart the drivethru was the front door for a few hours.
Historically, Barnard Lions Club sponsored a Harvest Festival each year where the community came together for a day of games, food, and camaraderie. It also served as a fundraiser for the group, who paid for the entire festival. Attendance was free, but festival goers were encouraged to make a freewill donation.
To best serve their patients, the Lincoln County Health Dept. has new hours. They are now open Monday – Thursday 7 am – 5:30 pm.
A new business the community has been watching mature from an idea to almost fruition is still on-going. While there are no major updates, work is ongoing.
Nancy Houghton of Barnard was a recent recipient of the Melvin Jones Award for lifetime achievement. This is a prestigious award from Lions Clubs International, rewarding exemplary service and dedication by a Lion to their club, their community and to Lions overall. Lions International recognizes outstanding individuals by bestowing on them an award that is named for its founder, Melvin Jones. This Fellowship Award is the highest form of recognition and embodies humanitarian ideas consistent with the nature and purpose of Lionism.
